Local Files Grievances in Latest Round of Layoff Letters

The local filed a grievance today officially taking the county to task on the recent letters sent by Human Resources Bureau Chief Kim Gilmore.  The Union alleges that the letters violate at least three different provisions of the collective bargaining agreement and seeks to have the letters that were sent to members retracted, rescinded or repudiated.

While some who received the letters were in the bottom 20 of seniority, a couple were in the sixties.  Why this has occurred is unknown and the union is still trying to determine who received the letters from Mr. Gilmore.

One thing is clear:  the budget battle continues and the hearing that is scheduled for tommorrow, February 22, 2007 will be decisive.  We need to make sure that we are present and hold all commissioners accountable.  We must ensure that the twelve commissioners who supported the Claypool amendment stay strong and hold on and we need to convince the other five to go in the right direction-and restore core services and frontline jobs.

The last grievance, filed when we received notice of the furloughs, was withdrawn after the County agreed to rescind the notice and the notion of a four or three day work week.

We wont stop fighting because the battle is not over.

Bruce, The sign at our worksite said assembling at 9:30 a.m. for the 10:00 a. m. meeting at the county building. I think it’s the 5th floor there. Ruth

I was just watching the morning news (6:00am)and while there was, of course, news about several of the other offices there was no information about our office. I know things will be coming in as bits and pieces through the news, which is why I think it is VERY important for the union to get some information out to sites TODAY!!
Lots of people have gotten letters over the past week and no one deserves to go into this weekend not knowing about their job.
PLEASE get information to stewards at each location so that we do not have a whole office of people running around in a panic and yet another weekend of stress and worry.

  4. Executive Board Says:

In an effort to provide ACCURATE information, the union asks for the members to be patient and assures each and every member that when we know with certainty of the number of layoffs, we will communicate that information to you as soon as we can. Even the commissioners can’t tell you what the County Board passed in it’s budget at 3 am on 2/23/07. The accurate information you deserve will most likely be available on Monday, possibly Tuesday of next week.

Thank you for at least replying to my posting. I understand that it is difficult to get out ACCURATE information and total information at this point. I am sure that we will all continue to check this site on a regular basis today and in the next few days. Whatever updates can be given will be GREATLY appreciated by everyone.
