That&#039;s a good question.  In the old days, the county printed out a list that had &quot;orig hire&quot; dates and &quot;start&quot; dates.  The &quot;start&quot; dates were dates when people became Assistant Public Defenders while the &quot;orig hire&quot; dates noted when you began employment with the county.  Later, the county went to &quot;apd date&quot; for when you became an Assistant Public Defender and &quot;start date&quot; for when you started employment with the county.   Recently, however, the county adopted a new computer system that only shows the &quot;date started&quot;.  So it&#039;s all very confusing. 

The local is making efforts get management to be in compliance with the contract and encourages the members to review the management list and document any errors in writing with management- and cc the union.</description>

There are a few collegues who previously worked with the county in another capacity
and they are getting credit for that time served.  I think that is where the 
confusion comes in:  is senority date based on total employment years with the
county or the date you were hired as an Assistant????</description>
