Management’s Seniority List - Please Check for Accuracy

Recently, we posted the seniority list as known by AFSCME Council 31 in Springfield.  Many of you reviewed it and then sent correspondence indicating any errors you noticed.  Management responded by saying that they have their own list and we have now uploaded it for your review.  Please take a look at it and as we said before, send a memo to personnel if there is a mistake.  Then we will send the corrections to Springfield and hopefully arrive at a more accurate list.

The question arrises how do you configure the accurate senority date?
There are a few collegues who previously worked with the county in another capacity
and they are getting credit for that time served. I think that is where the
confusion comes in: is senority date based on total employment years with the
county or the date you were hired as an Assistant????

    Angie,
That’s a good question. In the old days, the county printed out a list that had “orig hire” dates and “start” dates. The “start” dates were dates when people became Assistant Public Defenders while the “orig hire” dates noted when you began employment with the county. Later, the county went to “apd date” for when you became an Assistant Public Defender and “start date” for when you started employment with the county. Recently, however, the county adopted a new computer system that only shows the “date started”. So it’s all very confusing.

The local is making efforts get management to be in compliance with the contract and encourages the members to review the management list and document any errors in writing with management- and cc the union.
