Thank you Tom and all who ran and voted. I will be honored to serve all our brothers and sisters during the next two years. I am concerned that the next few months will be a very challenging time for our Local but together I’m sure we will protect our members and our clients.

About 60-70% of our clients are African American but only 1 of the 7 exec board members is an African American. Why can’t the union’s exec board reflect its clients better? I think 3-4 of the exec board should be reserved for African Americans to reflect our clients better.

Mr. Check:
Reserved spots on the board or for trustee positions based on race or religion or age or sexual orientation would violate our local’s constitution and probably would violate the U.S. constitution as well. That being said, in our last election 50% of African Americans on the ballot were elected and 100% of Hispanics on the ballot were elected. We are a democratic organization open to all our members.
